Help Save The American Girl Club

Hey Girls,
You have probably heard, that American girl is canceling the club! Can you believe it? It was the best online club for girls. I met so many nice girls there, and have became good friends with them!I don't know of any clubs that are half as safe and nice as this one, I don't think its fair to take it it away.

American Girl has always been the most nurturing, attentive, and amazing company but this decision doesn't seem to match this.

Help us fight to save our club by posting your comments! Together we can hopefully save our club!

First, make a comment here. Tell how long you have been a member, why you love the club, good stuff that has come from it (friends made, moments shared, etc.), then tell everyone else you know in the club.

When we have gathered a bunch of responses, we will show it to American Girl. Maybe, just maybe, when they see how we feel, they will reconsider. Isn't American Girl about being adventuresome, standing up for yourself, taking a risk, and seeking justice? Let's step up to the plate and make our voices heard! Where are you, American Girl?

I agree. I have been this club for about a year and I think starting the club was the best thing American Gril EVER did. I think they are making a HUGE mistake! Through this club I have done many art projects, reading projects and community projects that have helped shape me into the person I am. I hope that together we can bring it back!

Hey I so agree! American Girl Club has really made me fell loved by many other girls out there. It gives me something to do when I am bored and gives me someone to love. (YOU GUYS!) I think that you are totally awsome to take time to make this blog and potentially help thousands of girls who really hate to see this opportunity fly out the door. The club has also brouht me closer to my family, help me manage my resources (through stars) and taught me the value of things (stars and friends too!) Without the Club thousands of girls wil be wasting thousands of hours that could be spent bonding with other girls, making stars by being caring, considerate, and loving, or having a ball and laughing. I think that because of this the Club, in a way, has saved us as American Girls. AG, KEEP THE CLUB! KEEP THE YOUNG AMERICAN GIRLS ALIVE!

we your tottaly right we need to make a stand I've been in this club for 2AWSOMEyears and I don't want to stop now I've made so many new friends and I dont want to lose them.this club is fun its incouraging us to make a stand for what is right and I don't think it should EVER stop.I've now learnded to be a leader not a followeralso to stand up for other people that are being bulid not to just sit there and watch.

I can't believe the club is closing! We have to do something! I made so many friends and did so many things that I would never do on my own. Things like... making those butterfly wings for my doll, read all those books I did, and help in the community. The club is closing beacause it didn't make enough money; If they didn't give away all of their products you can buy with stars they might do better. They could at least charge shipping. PLEASE don't close the club. The American Girl Club is the ONLY reason I get on the internet. Also, to get more money, they could still charge $20 for renewals. I have been in the club for 2 years and was hoping to be in it more. The club CANNOT close!! The club really means a lot to all of us!

I'm a grandmother and I recently spent more than $600 at the Manhattan store with my granddaughter, age 7.
The website and catalogues have helped her reading and gives us something to do together.
I was just about to enroll her in the club. Is Mattel getting too greedy? Save the club for all these girls.

Does anyone know why they really closed the club? The email we got was vague. My daughter is devastated and I don't know if I can support a brand that lets kids down in this way ... it's really tough on them. Kind of like when Purple Moon shut down.

My oldest daughter is nine years old, this is the only place on line that I feel she is secure. She has grown thru Americn Girl in many ways. She worked for months to earn the backpack. She has always loved to read the books, amd now she is learning about communicating with her friends thru the computer. She tends to be shy, but thru AG she has been able to open up and reach out to new friends. We had the opportunity to go and visit the LA store after it opened, Ag does alot to help young girls grow-up properly. That is not easy with some of the toys that are marketed these days. My youngest daughter is so looking forward to joining the club and being able to go online like her sister. It will be very difficult to find somthing else comperable to AG for her. I don't think that there is anything else out there. I am not sure of the reasons for closing the club, I just hope that AG has considered the impact on the girls. They are taking away a really great thing.

My family is behind you, too. My girl is a little too young for this club, but I was going to subscribe to it anyway and hold it for her when the time comes. Or wait a little to sign up. Now, I can't do either.

American Girl, don't cancel a club that does a world of good for so many young girls. It's the safest and nicest club for young girls out there. Please bring it back. I will sign up as soon as it is brought back and I won't wait.

I think that the club shouldn't close because i haven't been a member for a whole year and i bet a lot of girls are like this too and if you haven't been a member for as long as a whole year(Like me)the things that you want to get with stars that you want to earn are either sold out of your size(if it's a pice of clothing that you want)or you arn't able or don't have enough stars I also think that the club is a fun safe and friendly online club i just disagree with this unfair choice they have madei find it rude!

Hey. I'm right behind you. We could do so many fun things in the club. And they have so many awesome things to buy with stars. It was also a lot of fun to meet girls on the club mail. This site is safe, and packed with fun. I have been with the club for two years, and I'd hate to see them cancel it. This canceling is completely pointless and is dissapointing many girls across the country. Thank you for having this blog site (to Maggie) so everyone can try to stop this. My daughter and her friends were devastated when we received the email that the American Girl Club was closing. My daughter has been a member for a year and has absolutely loved the club. She is on it almost everyday and has made so many new friends that she emails with regularly. I enjoy knowing that this has been a safe way for her to email other girls. I did not appreciate the way we were notified about the closing of the club. The email was cold and vague. I believe a better explanation needs to be made or that the American Girl company needs to reconsider what they are doing. Thank you for your consideration of all of these disappointed girls and moms.

I am not exactly sure why American Girl (Mattel) has decided to close the club, but I am assuming that their decision is based on a monitary business reason. My daughter joined the club almost 2 years ago and since then, I have purchased memberships for my neices and some of her friends because I was so impressed with the club. I think that American Girl needs to take a look at the impact that the club has on other American Girl purchases. More often than not, values of services provided do not lie in the hard dollar that is dropped to the bottom line, but the "soft dollar" impact on sister business profits. I think that American Girl Club owes its members another look at this decision and whether or not it is in the best interest of all involved. As for all of you "American Girls" out there it is obvious that you have learned to stand up and fight for things you believe in! Keep up the great work girls and don't give up!

The American Girl Club is a wonderful club. It builds character as is evidenced here by these comments. As the Mom of a member, I truly hope that American Girl will not close this club. The girls are proud of their club and the company should be, too. Afterall, the American Girl Company had the gumption to start this club and these girls have the courage to voice their comments. I have been in the Club for two years, ever since it began. The second it started I begged my mom if I could be in the Club, and ever since I've met about a BAZILLION wonderful friends that I will never forget. I dreamed for years that American Girl would make a friend system where we could write other AG fans who shared the same interests. And finally my dream became a reality!
But now the Club is closing!!!!! I'm shocked and I can't figure out why they'd want to crash all of our dreams and not let us write anymore. All of our friends will be gone forever!!
Please Americna Girl, if you care about us,and if you want to be the best that you can be, please do not close the Club and break our little hearts. Please!

Hey everyone I´am pretty sure I know what is happening. 1 They are losing money. they dont make enough income from the club to buy more club product and give them out for free.2, the reason, To no one impaticular, if that is how you spell it, Haha, I think some girls may cheat. they say o yes I have read that i did that and just mark everything make up an answer and buy buy buy! They do not think what they are is hurting anything but it did!So in conclusion, 3, They will not start the club back up. If they do I will be very very surprised. Now what you are thinking is this girl is NUTS she WANTS the club to close?!?!?!?! Well i dont that is the last thing I want to happen but I have tried and failed tried again and failed again and that is all that is happening. So instead of failing and getting no where I think we should start a new club or well persaude them to! It would be free to all girls unless you want to pay like say 10 dollers a year and you would get discounts on items,I will tell you about this later, It will be JUST like the old club. You earn stars, have games, send messages to friends, faves page, EVERYTHING! But after earning stars you would buy treasures other favorite pages and even you could buy games to play. It would be fun doing projects and reading books 4 stars! We would also have contests for stories drawing whatever! You could still buy club charms and all that but only with REAL money not stars! Now for paying for the club what would happen is you would get extra stars or something discounts on items in the club store or other things! wouldnt that be fun!?!?!? The Americangirl Club was soo great. I think every single person that owned the Club LOVED it. You met so many good friends that you could always count on to e-mail you and have someone to chat with. I love American Girl Club! It's the only online club that i not only actually considered entering, but I entered! We girls love AG and the AG Club! American girl has been great in the past about 4-5 years I've known it! In fact I just yesterday dressed up my 4 AG dolls specaily for 4th of July! Since AG has always been so great, why would they turn around now and t6ake away something we American Girls love! American Girl, this is about the most I've typed for one reason. The reason of saveing something I for one of many,love. We are standing up for our rights American Girl. Something that you taught us to do.

Hello Everyone!

I have been on the club since it started (I beleive that was two years ago).
I think that it is great for the following reasons:

1. the savest club on the web

2. tons of great people are easy to communicate with

3. I am not an athletic person and a lot of the projects on the club are very active ones so now I am getting a lot more exercise.

4. on the favorites page it says "fav sport" I wasn't sure what to put so I just did it at random - I had picked skating and now I roller-blade almost every afternoon with my two dogs

5. I really like the fact that you can get free stuff! I got my first charm bracelet from the AG club and the t-shirt I received from them is very comfortable.

6. I like the games quite a lot, because they are quite simple, although I think it would just be kind of neat if you could maybe just get 5 stars per 100 points.

7. I have met soo many girls on the club and I would hate to lose contact with them!

8. My mother and I like doing the projects together because she works about an hour away and we don't get to spend a whole lot of time together, so the projects are something for us to do together other than going shopping!

9. the website is very organized and I really like that

10. This list could go on and on, But I will stop here.
I noticed thatin a lot of the comments there were three main things said:
First of all, everyone gave all their reasons why they don't want the club to disapear and go away.
Second, people said why they think the club is closing. I believe it is because they opened the club to try and bring more girls into the company. They didn't make enough money, though, so that is why I think the club is closing.
The third thing a lot of people said was a possibility on how the club could make more money. I think that it could work out in a way that you could use your stars to get a discount on items, but not just get things for free.
Alright, I feel I have said enough and I do so hope the club does not close upon receiving these messages.

Hey! I totally agree with you. I've been in the club for a year and a half and I'm pretty upset. My friends at the club always helped me out better than my friends I know personally. And the games and quizzes are pretty cool. So, let's stand up for ourselves, make them see how much it means to us! We aren't just fans that make are parents pay to be in this club, NO WAY! I am very unhappy about the closing of the club. I know I have friends on this club that have helped me through some awful events that has happend. Last summer I thought I was going to loose my grandma's dog, when I did ALL of my 100 (than) friends helped me. Two weeks ago my grandma's dog did die. My 60 friends helped me. Maggie I am behind you the whole way. I joined the club October 15th 2004. I love this club because I can meet many new friends and I know everything about it is safe. I am only allowed to chat on 1 other site, because my mom trusts this site and that site. I will only have the one site when you close. I won't be able to talk to some of my friends that I have been talking to the whole time I have been in this club. I love everytghing about it. My cousin joined the club because her parents are very protective of her and all other sites for her are blocked exept American Girl. How are we suppose to learn about other people and not be made fun of because of your age and love for some dolls that are made?? I know none of that is in the club, but any were else you get made fun of. Oh, and another thing, my friends here helped me out 70x better than my friends here were I live. I live in the country and well, if you know how the country is your friends aren't that close to you. These girls make it seem like they are close to me. I can talk to at least one a day. Well girls lets keep fighing!! We need this club to stay open!!

Most of us girls will do anything to keep this club going even paying a little bit more I think. It is the best thing most of us have had in a long time. Our friends are always there to help you here.

I have already e-mail American Girl and told them how upset I am that they are closing the club. I have made alot of friends through this club, and without the club there is no way of keeping incontact with them. I have only been a member for almost a year. I love the club. When I heard they were making a club, I got so excited! But when I heard they were closing, I didn't know what to think! When I told my friends they were closing the club, they were sad too, even though they aren't members! My one friend has a friend that moved away, and they were going to use the club to talk to eachother. My other friend was going to sign up too! i've been in the club for about a year and a half now and it has been an awesome experience! i have met so many cool people and made so many good friends. this club is safe and promotes lots of projects by using the stars and giving prizes!!

i dont want the club to end just b/c of the business. think about how this club is truly the place for girls!! DON'T LET IT GO!!!!!

I agree with all of you, and American girl is a very succsful organazation, this being one of their most wonderful items. American Girl really knows girls, and this is an addition to all of their wonderful qualities. American Girl should not close because its a great club that safe, and nowadays, there aren't many clubs that do that for girls. I have been a member for about a year now, and I have made lots of friends that agree that American Girl is a terrific and fun way to spend your time. There are lots of cool things to do, and it woul make me cry to think that all of that would be gone. So, don't give up yet, American Girl club.

My daughter was very excited about (finally) being a member of The American Girl club. She is all about collecting friends and this was another great avenue for her to do so. However, I suspect that the reason they are closing has nothing to do with money and more to do with safety & liability issues. For instance, my daughter received some pretty suspicious e-mails that most of us would think of as harmless. But to a trained eye are indicative of the tactics that child predators use to lure you children in. I think that American girl felt that they could not have a 100% safe club and therefore were not willing to take any more chances.

I love american girl i met so many cool girls. Like coolkat and maddy 11! why anyone would try to get rid of the club is well crazy i truly think the club is best!! my parents think this is one of the safest places every Because THEY get to moneter my messages going out and coming in so nothing bad goes near me. American girl club is safe, fun, and entertaning i was able to get things noone else can get because of the points i earned. SAVE AMERICAN GIRL CLUB!!! it is safe so why close it down? that is one of my only questions!

AmericanGirl has for twenty years been a company that strengthens girls, and gives them courage to beleive anything is possible. When on June thirteenth, that fateful day, they announced that the club is closing, I was in shock. For two decades, as the magazine celebrates, this company has been a source of fun for girls of many ages. Now that it is closing, it obviously does not realize how it staining to history of the Pleasant Company and the ties between girls that have steadfastly matured over the years.

Though the Americangirl company may take the club from the girls, it will never take the strenght that lives forever more in the girls it has touched. If only it could have touched the hearts of themselves.

I beleive that Americangirl Company should beleive in themselves. I have heard the reason the club is closing down is because it is experiencing financial issues that has caused it to loose money. I cannot fathom the idea of the club closing, it will be too dramatic and unreasonable. I do have a willy strategy that may prevent the club from closing forever more. If Americangirl was to stop giving out such abundant benefits to it's partisans, it is possible that it would not be going into chapter eleven~ in other words bankrupt.

I must say my penultimate farewell to all my aquantiences in the club, and hope against hope that the cardiovascullar system's of all AmericanGirl's employees are touched by this partisan's plea.

My daughter has been in AG Club for almost a year, and she's so disappointed that it's closing. I'm sorry to see it close, also, as it's such a fun, positive site for her to go to. Not many safe one's out there, but this is one I can trust. I wish they would re-consider other options, possibly charging more for the club (I know I would pay extra to keep it open), or even stop the earning stars to save money. Just the activities she does, and getting to meet and keep in touch with girls is enough for her. Thanks for the blog, and I hope very much that it helps keep the AG Club open and available!

I love the americangirl club. This is the place where I got sooooo much support when I was being teased. When I got one message, i cried. The people I met here were sooooo sweet and so kind, and American Girl cannot take all of this away from us. My daughter became a member of american girl club last December.
She was very upset to hear it was closing. She has enjoyed writing messages to other girls. She will miss all the friends made through the club.
AG club gave my daughter a chance to practice her writing skills when sending messages to friends. She learned more about herself through the fun quizzes she took. AG club is the only online club that is safe and promotes a positive atmosphere for girls. My daughter enjoyed all the projects she completed to earn stars. It was great that parents could give girls stars for accomplishments. It was great that they could get real products with their stars but it would still be fun to earn only virtual items. PLEASE DON'T CLOSE AMERICAN GIRL CLUB!!!!

Maybe all girls should stop buying American Girl - it was mean to start the club and let us make all these really great friends that love American Girl too and then take it away! The American girl club is one of a kind!! Don't you think so!!! Why can't we fight back? Because! They won't listen to "kids"!!!!!WE have a right to say what we say! WE are kids to the people of Americcan girl but are you and me to eachother!

As a parent I REALLY had hoped that you would have been able to keep this club open in some capacity. My daughter has enjoyed belonging to the club greatly.We homeschool and this gave her many different things to do after her work was finished. We had told other parents about how wonderful all of this was. I hope in the near future you would be able to reorganize and offer the girls another club. k.j.s mom

This site was beneficial to my granddaughter in that she was able to have conversations and meet other girls her own age via the internet. Being a safe site for girls is an important feature which should not be ignored without some very good reasoning. The closure of the American Girl site should be reconsidered and all possible attempts to keep it active should be made. PA & GRAMMY

Last night (8/14/06 cause it was midnight) I cried for like 20 minutes about the club closeing. I will miss my friends who couldn`t give me their e-mail adress and I will miss the treasures and games. My dad will even miss the game Snowboard Betty ! I really want the club to stay ! I don`t wanna lose my treasures ! I don`t wanna lose my favorites paige ! I don`t wanna lose the games ! AND I DON`T WANNA LOSE MY FRIENDS !

Maggie,
I am so with you. This is a super safe club and its super fun too. I, like you, have made so many friends that are irreplacable. I don't know what I will do after my homework is done because I usually go online and check my club mail. I can't belive that they would such a mean thing to their custumors.
I mean we buy club memberships and in return we get THIS, friends made and now lost forever, good times shared now will never be again stars saved for big prizes are now all spent on small trinkets. How could they do such a rude thing.

I think it's great that you did this blog.

This is Goldie20. I believe what you're doing is right. I hear the reason that American Girl is closing the club is because not enough people were getting memberships so they weren't getting enough money off of the club. So, we'll have to email them about reopening the club, but we have to promise that we'll recruit for new members of the club. Ok, I hope American Girl reconsiders closing the American Club permantely.

i cannot believe the club is closing!!! I met so many nice people in the club!!! I absolutely loved it. The AG Club was one of the only safe clubs! Other clubs didn't really pay attention to what happened but AG did. They had parents ok things so that they knew what was happening!! A ton of girls will not be happy that AG is making that choice! It is such a bummer!!!!

you cannot close the club. There should be a reason to close the club.
If you want to close the club, you should do it because you aren't getting enough money or you dont think it is safe. Millions of girls enter a day, and it is the safest club ever. pleeeeaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssseeeee let it stay!
